Ski Waxing Basics
      by Jordan Kolev

Stick with a single brand of wax. Switching brands makes finding what works in certain conditions more complicated. Use the waxing charts for each brand as provided. Popular brand names are SWIX, TOKO, DOMINATOR, etc.

In Prewax prep roughing up the base with sandpaper and followed by Scotch-brite will make it more receptive to wax and then fine wire brush which serves to clean the base. The ski base should be clean and at house temperature.

Waxing with proper waxer iron is best
Allow the wax to drip evenly on the base. Wax should not smoke during the application, adjust temperature as needed.

Smooth out the wax with the iron by gently moving it tip to tail
Make sure the iron is kept moving. Allow the wax to soak into base and cool off at room temperature before scraping.

Scraping
use a quality plastic scraper to remove all excess of wax.The base should be scraped very clean for all snow conditions.

Waxed skis should not be put together and strapped without a protector sleeves between the skis
Avoid putting your hands and fingers on the waxed bases.

Cleaning the bases after tune up is best done with waxing them with cheap base wax and scraping immediately.
The wax will draw impurities from the base without drying it.

Skis should always be waxed at least with cheap base wax while traveling to a race.
