Starters
- Parents working
as starters should check in the race shack first thing in the morning to see if
the starters backpack has been sent to the start.
The starters backpack should contain a mounting stick, wand, headset,
hammer, and radio. Otherwise,
parents working the start need to report to the starting gate prior to the
races. Races start at
10:00
and
1:30
. Please be early!
One starter uses the headset to communicate with the timing shack and
starts the racers. The timers need
to know coach, racers name and bib #. Two
starters assist the racers in lining up. Starters make sure that each racer is
ready, and help the Lead Starter assure that the course is clear before the
start of each racer. Racers are
started with “Racer Ready, 3, 2, 1, GO!”

GATEKEEPERS
- Gatekeepers will
report to the slopes where the cat track from Lift No.1 midstation joins
Wonderbump Trail. Gatekeepers should
distribute themselves evenly on both sides of the course with a good view of the
gates. Their primary
responsibilities are: to make sure each racer goes through the gates and
doesn’t miss one (a disqualification, or DQ), to help racers who have fallen
and lost a ski (also a DQ, except in the last gate), encourage racers who have
fallen and not lost a ski to go back up and make the gate and continue.
(Caution: only give verbal assistance and encouragement, or the racer
will be disqualified.) Signal a DQ
by raising crossed poles on the course where the DQ occurred, so the starter and
timing shack can see. If another
gatekeeper is signaling a DQ, you should relay the message up or down the course
by also signaling.

COURSE
MAINTENANCE - This
position requires strong skiing skills. Report
to Wonderbump Trail where it is joined by the access trail from Lift No. 1
Midstation. Tools, shovels, and
rakes are provided. Use them to help
cover bare spots and repair hole on the course.
Sid
e slipping the course to
knock down built up ridges on the turns is important also.
Keep an eye on the gates to make sure they are upright and secure.
Decide among yourselves who will perform what chores.
It is critical that all maintenance workers keep an eye up hill for
racers on the course, so you stay clear when they ski through.
Safety and fairness to all racers is the main goal for maintenance
workers.

LODGE
PARENT - This job
is great for the non-skiing parent. You
will have use of a radio so you can be in contact with all of the coaches.
Check in the race room to get your radio first thing in the morning,
9:00-9:30
.
If race room is locked, check with guest services desk for radio.
If there is an issue on the hill, you can assist the coach with the off
the hill aspects i.e.: young child
needing bathroom break, someone too cold to ski, assist coach with getting
injured/sick child to Ski Patrol. This
is not a babysitting service, the role is to help direct things and get the
child back with their coach/parent as soon as it is appropriate.
