Buddy Werner and USSA Racers, Parents, and Fans:
Welcome back to a new ski racing season.
The Powderhorn Racing Club is looking forward to all returning
racers and welcoming new racers and their families to both the Buddy
Werner program and to age class USSA racing.
If you have any question about the difference check out the
newsletter, or our website at www.powderhornracing.org,
or feel free to contact either Deb Twardowski (USSA) or
Jodi Mace (Buddy Werner).
The last thing I remember about last season was the wonderful
weekend in Steamboat at the BW State race where the Powderhorn BW squad
skied great and put several racers on the podium.
Congratulations to all our BW skiers that qualified for the state
race. Also, last year we had 2
USSA skiers, Courtney Clark and Zac Twardowski, make it to the Alpine
Junior Olympics. This is a
remarkable achievement for a small hill and a volunteer organization.
Way to go racers, and moms and dads, grandparents, brothers and
sisters. Thanks.
This season is going to be wild because we are hosting two big
races. We will host the State
Buddy Werner race, the West council Championship,
on March 8, 2009. The
next weekend, March 14-15 PRC is hosting the J5 finale, a 3 state
championship race for all J5 USSA racers.
We will be asking for volunteers, and expertise, and will tap all
club members and families to help us pull these races off, flawlessly, as
usual.
We have done our best to keep fees as low as possible.
There is also some scholarship money from the family of Tom
Richardson for several BW racers to help pay the costs of the program.
Contact me or Jodi Mace with questions.
Lastly, we are always looking for volunteers and are
recruiting new board members. It
is a critical year for us as a club to raise money to pay for some capital
improvements we need to train and race effectively.
Please e-mail me your fundraising suggestions and lists of
contacts; remember, this is a volunteer club, we need your help!
In closing, THINK SNOW!

Head Coaches report
This
year, the Powderhorn Racing Club has hired Matthias Schmidt as Head Coach
for USSA. He grew up racing in
Vermont for the Mount Mansfield Ski Club and went on to compete for the
University of Vermont. After college he coached for the same club he skied
for and now in his 3rd year at Powderhorn is excited to be the USSA Head
Coach. He will help oversee
the DEVO program. Kevin Hoskins is returning as the Head coach for the
Buddy Werner program.
