REMINDERS • VOLUNTEER
JOBS • EQUIPMENT TIP SHEET
• PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Buddy Werner is a sub group of the Powderhorn Racing Club. The operations are carried out by a Board of Directors. Each year provides us with new opportunities for growth. If you have experience in the race club, being a board member, or fund-raising, we would love to hear from you! Without this working Board there is no Powderhorn Racing Club. Please contact a board member if this is a role you could help us with. GENERAL BUDDY WERNER
INFORMATION: The Buddy Werner Program is a recreational racing program with as its goal to make everyone a better skier or snowboarder. The focus of this program is on fun, skills, etiquette, safety, and an introduction to racing. The Buddy Werner Program is not a learn to ski or learn to snowboard program. The athletes need to be able to ski down one of the blue runs, and boarders need to be able to execute toeside to heelside and heelside to toeside turns. The
program runs on Sundays from early January through the end of February. They
will race for individual times, not in a head to head competition format. Each
child will have two runs on the racecourse on 3 Sundays. Races will be held on
Wonderbump, starting just above the midway road. Racers will be required to wear
their assigned racing bibs for each race (and every training day). Racers may inspect the racecourse, but
they cannot ski the racecourse before their race.
Each child will be placed in a group of similar age and ability for their coached lesson. The lessons will vary from week to week with the emphasis on fun and improving skills and technique. Individual awards will be
handed out at the end of the day on race days. Minimum requirements: 1)
All participants must be able to load on and off of a chairlift and poma,
without parental assistance. They must be able to ski a blue run from the top of
Powderhorn Ski Resort.
2) Children will need alpine skiing or snowboarding equipment and ski passes or lift tickets to Powderhorn Ski Resort. 3) Helmets are required. 4) Parents are responsible for their children during the lunch break. We are dependent on our parent volunteers to make our program run. When you register your child for the Buddy Werner Program, you will be asked to volunteer a couple of days during the race season. list of parental responsibilities. |
